Problems with call of duty 4 online for ps3?

ok hi people i have a little problem... im tired of doing a million matches to get a higher rank. can anyone tell me some tips anf glitches etc of how to be a better killer and to be higher ranked faster? oh i am level 22 in prestige modeProblems with call of duty 4 online for ps3?

This game requires patience, diligence, and persistence to make it to the top.

scar is a good gun but shoots slow. It depends on how you like to play. I had a similar problem with getting kills but I was going for nuke, but similar. I couldn't get enough kills. I started trying new things. Heartbeat sensors help but you have to unlock them first. What really helped me get into the groove was a lot of camping with silencers. I wound up loving the silenced famas. Make sure you know the maps, as well. If you just got the game, get into a private match with some friends and try getting used to the maps.

on the barely seeing people problem. If you don't have an hd tv, it helps a lot although i know times are tough now so do what you can. If you have one, make sure you have a composite or hdmi cable and check in the system settings-%26gt;visual settings to make sure your tv is set to hd like 720 or 1080i/p. If you have the cable that came with the xbox, the component and composite cable in one(the one with yellow white, two reds, blue and green) then check the side of the connection that goes into the xbox and there's a selector that changes from hd to regular def. Make sure it's on hd.

Again, I don't know your specific problem and don't mean to sound stupid if you knew these things, just trying to help.

On Call of duty 4, when i watch ';kill cam'; i aim at the person who killed me, i shoot at them, and they move to the side, but then i am still shooting where they were standing. They kill me before my playstation registers their movement.

My connection bar on the side is 3 green bars. How can i make it 4 green ones, so that i can have a fair chance?

Well since you have it hardwired there is a good chance it might just be your internet, check your modem and such and see if you have enough ports opened and whatnot. This may not even be a fix, it might just be the PS3 online severs and you cannot do anything about those.

I am having trouble playing Madden 09 (PS3) online with my cousin. Can you help us?

I have been playing Madden online for about a month now and I have had absolutely no problems with my router or connection. My cousin just got a wireless router so that we could play Madden together but for some reason it has not worked for us yet.

Here is the problem:

We can find each other in a lobby, send a game invite, and accept the invite, but when it goes to the screen with the team select, neither of us can EVER see the other guys team or press 'x' for 'ready' so eventually the session just times out. Apparently he is not able to play anyone on Madden so obviously the problem is with his connection, but he is able to connect to the internet just fine, as well as play MLB 08 the Show online, just not Madden or NHL 3 on 3.

If you could please let me know how we can play each other I would really appreciate it as it is the whole reason he bought a wireless router.

How do I get my ps3 online at a hotel?

I'm staying in a hotel and have free wi-fi and wired internet but I can not seem to get online. During the connection test the ';obtain IP address'; step is successful, however the next step ';internet connection'; fails. This is an unsecured network and does not require any wpa keys , and I don't think it requires an SSID. I had no trouble connecting my laptop.

I have tried both wired and wireless (and I disconnected the cable when I went wireless). I am not familar enough with this stuff to do the custom.How do I get my ps3 online at a hotel?

Well it's obtaining an ip adress so it might not be a dns error. The ps3 may be failing to keep the connection stable between itself and the access point long enough to connect to the internet.

Try changing the wireless channel on your router because it may be getting interfered with by neighbours routers or household appliances.

In the playstation firmware, go to network options and set the wireless connecton manually. Make sure all the settings are correct.

Otherwise connect the playstation up with a cable and see if there is still problems. If there is still trouble then it would be a wireless dns problem.

Make sure you set everything to ';automatic'; for the Wi-Fi connection on the PS3 - except the security key, of course. I hope you are using at least WEP security and that you entered the right key - that sounds like the issue, since you are getting an IP address but can not connect to the internet.

Your WEP key is the security key so that no one else can sign into your internet.

I cant get PS3 online!!!?

ok i have a 60gb PS3. I have a WRT54g wireless router from Linksys also i have verizon DSl with the westell 6100. you know that little black box. So i go internet connection and when i reach the end it say Ip address timed out. With a 100% signal. Ok so i enter the Ip address manually and in the end it says i cannot connect to the internet and that it is a DNS error. How do I fix that??? Help. Well since you have DSL it sounds as though the DSL information for the account is not in the router. Open a web browser from a computer connected to the router, then go to the router's address, usually 192.168.0.1. On the basic settings screen there should be an option there to select my connection requires a login. Put your DSL information in those boxes, usually an email address and then the password for the DSL connection. Then test the connection from the router, it should work, if that connection works then set the PS3 to DHCP, you should then get a connection.

How can I speed up my PS3 online?

ok the problem is not in the PS3, it's in your internet. change your internet provider would be my option.

for your gaming, if you're playing CoD4, you can't get local internet connections.

with CoD5, you can click the Local Only connection button, and you will always having 75%+ connections :)

I redid the internet connection settings. I went through the scan and then WPA key and all that stuff. Then after I do that the connection is restored but after a few minutes the PS3 signs back out.

Well.. first off, try to totally put your PS3 off... (sleep, than back button, than the cable) If it still dont work, try to put the internet off (ps3-menu) and try again.. If this still won't work, try tu put off your modem/router... In the end, try to reset the router settings, and if even that won't help, try ask this on the PSN-forums...

Help i cant get my ps3 online!!?

First off, I have an Xbox 360 which connects fine, its all set up automatically so i assume the router is healthy, but i still can't connect my ps3 to the same router. If i try to enter evrything automatically, the ps3 cannot find the ISP address, if I enter the details manually, it will find the isp but no dns (it actually says connected to the isp with a number of isp numbers ive put in, is that normal?). Ive been on to the xbox and copied the network settings it picks up automatically to my ps3 but nothing. I didnt set up the router to the computer, somebody else did, but it now runs independently of a computer, just the router connected to our broadband phone line. I would also like to know how i would find my 'correct' settings, as ive been through many different suggestions; and when connecting the wireless router to ps3 for the first time, does the router need to be connected to the pc. it sounds like your xbox is cancelling out your ps3s signal.

make sure that your xbox isnt on at the same time and that your are entering your wepkey correctly.

Help Getting PS3 Online?

I have high speed internet (its cable internet). I have a modem with 1 jack for a internet connection, which I use for my PC. According to ';My Network Places';, my internet speed is 100.0 Mbps.

I don't know a lot about how Routers work since I have never used one before. I want to be able to run my PS3 off my modem which already runs my PC. I want to have them both connected at all times.

So basically my question is, what type of Router should I get ( I want one that won't lag badly or disconnect). I would prefer one that requires the Ethernet cables rather than wireless because I hear wireless isn't that great.

If I have to get a wireless one, is there an adapter I need to buy that goes in the PS3 to receive the signal or something?

Also, where do I plug it in, it probably comes with an instruction manual with that information, right?Help Getting PS3 Online?

I have a broadband internet connection. This means that there's an antenna on or roof, enabling the whole house to be connected to the net without any wires. Laptops with wifi compatibility work as well. My question is, if this is how we're connected to the internet, do I still need to buy a router for a ps3 (40gb) ? Or will the ps3 recognize the connection (w/o the router.) ?

You dont necessarily need a router to plug in, it can connect wirelessly right out of the box. You may want to get one though, dont know how many computers/laptops you have in your house, but if all are using your wireless source at the same time your connection isnt going to be very good and you wont stay connected.

Port forwarding would only be required if you were acting as a server, so setting your IP to the DMZ is unnecessary. Do you have a wired connection, or is it wireless? You should consider bypassing network hardware and just connect the PS3 directly to your modem. If you still have the problem, you should be asking your ISP, not us, and if you don't, then you have a problem with your router.

Upgrading the router firmware would be my first recommendation, and if that doesn't do the trick, then maybe replace it altogether (or if you're using wireless, you should consider ethernet).

No. The internet connection has to be coming from the router because that is where the main connection is. You router is sending out the connection and your PS3 is just receiving it. The PS3 doesn't send out the connection so it won't work that way. The only way to have both of them online at the same time is if you have a long ethernet cord and plug it into the back of your router all the way to your 360, then you PS3 is receiving the connection from the wifi. no it doesnt work like that...what you have to do is plug the 360 to the router using the ethernet cable and the ps3 doesn't need any cables attached because of the wifi connection...it can connect wirelessly

I doubt it. I don't think online works like that. Either you directly the ethernet cable from your router to your 360 or PS3 or use wi-fi to obtain internet. If you want an ethernet cable to connect to both consoles just buy 2 cables and connect them to the back of your router from your consoles. It's not that hard.

Are you playing quick ranked matches?

If yes, then it's almost certainly router/ISP related. Peer to peer games such as FIFA ( in the case of 1v1 ) don't have a lot of control over the success of establishing peer to peer connections. It's generally up to the compatibility of the two users routers and the method by which p2p connections are established. The first FIFA has no control over, the second is handled by Microsoft on Xbox 360 ( Xbox live traffic is encrypted, and connection establishment is handled by their system API's ). The Ps3 is slightly different, but there will always be problems with whatever method FIFA uses to establish p2p connections. See below for a link to one of the most common and robust connection establishment methods, that only worked on 84% of routers @ 2005 ( I think ). Assuming a uniform distribution of router brands ( not likely but whatever ), then 29% (1 - 0.84*0.84) of all matchups would fail to work!

Network programmers will know most real-time games use UDP ( usually building reliability and fragmenting into a layer above it ), and FIFA is no exception.

If your ISP gives you an public IP address, then you can always solve your problem by connecting your cable/dsl modem straight to your console. If you still get connection problems it's something you should get your ISP to look into.

Does the PS3 browse the web the same way as my computer would? If so how does it work if the site needs a plug in like a flash player or whatever else the plugin requires. Can you download other browsers like Firefox or Opera and have the plugins with them?

The PS3 browser is crap, I have used it. You can only use the proprietary PS3 browser, and you can't download other ones and actually make them work without software modifications, which is a VERY tricky and risky business that requires a great deal of knowledge. As for the S video, you will probably need a special adapter, as S video is barely used for consoles anymore. Personally, I think the PS3 is a load of garbage. The online play sucks and isn't getting significantly better anytime soon, there is only one good PS3 exclusive game (Resistance), which still isn't as good as many 360 games, and it costs more than the 360. The only good parts are the barely better graphics and motion sensitive controller, which doesn't even have rumble. The 360, however, has great online, is $200 cheaper, and has a large catalog of great games. If you get a 360, the Premium is the best one, and Live is an absolute necessity. But I have one great thing to say about the PS3. If you want a blu-ray player, it is far and away the best one available. But seeing how you use S video, you would have no use for one. Plus the PS3 looks really cool.

You are in luck my friend because I have that same exact router. Basically it depends on what you want. If you want to go wireless go to settings on the PS3 main menu. Then scroll all the way down to Network Settings. Go to Internet Connection Settings. Click ';yes'; if a box appears. Next select easy. Now pick your choice of wireless or wired. If you select wireless select scan. The name of you router should appear and hit X. Click right and select none on the WLAN Security Setting screen. It will give you a list of information, just click X and hit Test Connection. You should connect and you can get all the advantages of having online for you PS3. First step is to download the manual from the manufacturer's site. The router must connect to the modem. ALL your machines must then connect through the router, either wired or wireless. Without the manual it is very near impossible to connect.

I have been playing COD3 online for several years....I even prefer it to COD4.

BUT over the last month or so I have started having connection problems. It started out with getting disconnected during games, then it progressed to games not starting up and then it went to not even being able to get into multiplayer mode. I checked everything even wondering if the disk had gone bad but then this post on a board gave me the fix. It details how to setup a router to let your PS3 be in a DMZ.

I felt I had to share it because when online I always see many other people disconnecting and reconnecting and I figure they may be having the same problem.

Every time I select 'Find Game' online on the PS3 and all the different types of games modes pop up, instead of the game modes, 'DOWNLOADING SETTINGS' pops up. Now I have waited for it to actualy 'download the settings' but it takes 3 or so hours when before, it took no more than 2 minutes.

I had this exact problem and it is quite simple to fix. Turn off your router and unplug all of its wires. Then do the same thing with the modem and swith your games console off.. Wait for about 20-30 secs and then plug the modem back in. When the modem shows all of its lights on then plug your router back in. This should work because i talked with the COD4 people. Keep closing your ps3. Shut the button on the back of your ps3 when you close it. Now open it back on and try it. If it doesnt work then keep shutting your ps3 off and do the same concept

If you use your neighbors wifi you don't need a router. Basically a router will take your signal and re-route it either via ethernet or wirelessly to your home. If you already have a wireless signal you just need to go into the settings on your ps3 xmb and under networking option there is an option to find a wireless signal. well, what you have to do is set up a wireless internet w/ the ps3 when you get it. it would be easier to understand if you actual had one so try to stay with me. there is an option when you decide to go wireless that allows the ps3 to begin to scan the area for wireless hot spots, in this case your friends. it will probably pick up others so i suggest you find out what name they put their connection under. once that happens you click on their connection and depending on whether of not they have a wep code you can go on. if they have this wep you need to get the code and type it in the ps3 when you get to that screen. once you get it correct, it will find an ip address and-poof! you should be online

The message ';Playstation Network has timed out'; is generic in nature and doesn't mean much other than the obvious: your PS3 is not connecting to the net. Check your IP settings to see that you have an ip address. Also check to see your ethernet cable port is flashing it's light (to see that you have physical connection). Often times the router is not issuing an IP address to your PS3. If you have a computer attached to the router, check to see if the computer is online. First, try restarting your router and your modem. If that doesn't work, check to make sure that your router is handing IP addressing via DHCP and not via static. You also might want to change the security method that your router is using. It could also be a compatibility issue between your router and the PS3. Some routers are gaming device friendly, and some are not. So do a search of your routers model number to see if it is compatible with the PS3 in wireless mode.

FYI - Gaming systems play much better with ethernet connections. There's a LOT more lag when you throw wireless connections in the mix. If you are unable to do so, I understand.

Just got the 40gb version of PS3. Everytime when I tried to play online, PS3 would say it can't connect to the net (with a DNS problem error message.) After a little pinpointing, turns out the connection to the net got cut off on the router (Linksys WRT54G.) Can't reconnect by just pressing that 'reconnect' button but have to unplug the router. i had that same problem with that router a before i got my new one, what u do is, type in 192.168.1.1, then click wireless setting section, then make up a network name, then make your broadcasting invisible/hidden.

I guess it depends on how far away your wireless is. Try moving it closer to your PS3, and see if your connection becomes stronger. This happened with my friend, and this is what he tried, and it worked.

Wireless wont lag too much compared to an ethernet cable, shouldnt really affect u that badly at that distance. I think u should use wireless if u dont want an ethernet cable running across ur house.

You could do it, but not by plugging the modem directly into the PS3. You'd have to plug it into a PC, and then share the connection with the PS3 using Internet Connection Sharing (assuming you have a PC that runs Windows).

However, I strongly advise you NOT to do this. Mobile broadband is basically for web surfing and email - it's totally unsuitable for online gaming. The lag on the connection makes games unplayable, and the restrictive download limits could be a problem too.

Get cable or ADSL based broadband if you're serious about using your PS3 online. It'll be cheaper and faster for use with your computer too. I don't understand why you have mobile broadband when you don't have a laptop - that's kind of the whole point of it!

I'm not sure why you keep saying anything about lights in the Ethernet cable. None of my Ethernet cables have lights in them. The lights are not necessary for the cable to work.

Wireless is good. But you cant get better than a wired connection. If you have a ';box with a small antenna'; that should be your router. If your ps3 is close enough I'd suggest just routing it through there. There is a significant difference in download speed and connection. I've owned a PS3 for a while now (60GB) and have tried connecting to the internet several times - like many people I get the message that Obtaining IP Address succeeded, but then Internet Connection failed due to a DNS error (80710102).

I've tried countless combinations of automatic, manual, IP addresses and DNS codes but it seems determined not to work! How do I get my PS3 online with a wired connection, but without a router?

I was wondering if it would be possible to get my PS3 Slim 250GB online without the use of a router, but by using an ethernet cable connected directly from a port in my computer, which is then connected to my PS3. My internet connection is a wireless 3 usb dongle, but it does not produce a wireless signal for my PS3 to connect to (much like a router). I have attempted the following:

-connecting the dongle directly to a PS3 usb port (my PS3, predictably, did not recognise the device);

-connecting an ethernet cable directly to my PS3 and PC (the PC mentioned sending numerous ';packets'; and receiving 0 packets, whereas the PS3 failed to connect completely at any point during my attempts, and I have my suspicions that the computer was trying to establish an internet connection FROM the PS3, rather than to establish an outgoing one TO the PS3).

Please could someone in-the-know help me? All of the above would probably be my limit of understanding when it comes to computing (I'm a n00b), so I would be greatful if your reply contained little to no jargon (although I could always look any up on Wikipedia).

Connect your computer to your modem as you normally would, and make sure it has a good internet connection. Now, you'll need to connect the computer to the ps3 with a CROSSOVER ethernet cable. More than likely, you have a straight-through ethernet cable, not a crossover. This is the biggest issue. Once you get yourself a crossover cable (from any electronics store, ie. best buy or radio shack), plug it in to both computer and ps3. On your computer, you'll need to go into the Control Panel %26gt; Network Connections. Right click your wired LAN connection and choose properties. Move to the advanced tab and turn on Internet Connection Sharing. Now your PC will correctly share your internet to your PS3.

you cant put a mobile wireless dongle into your ps3 to get online.

if you do it via a PC, the connection will be sloooooooooooooooooooow and will lag (stutter and take ages), the chances are you might not even get a connection.

PS3 has built in WI-FI. You do not need that dongle to hook it up to your wireless router.

Ok, well I just got Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for Christmas and I was wondering how the game play was for the PS3 online. I've played Metal Gear on PS3 online and to be honest it had too much **** to sign up for and was overall a hassle. Plus there didn't seem to be all that many people playing it. I already have a Xbox Live account so getting online for either system is no problem. Now I'm wondering whether I should return it and get it for the 360. I have both systems and I know that Xbox Live has a kick *** community because I have been a part of it for so long. However I only have limited experience with the online PS3 community. So I was wondering whether I should keep it for the Ps3 or return it for the 360.

It depends on how many friends you have on either console. if you have more buds on 360, then get the 360 version. if you have more friends on PS3 then just keep the one you have. there's not much difference between either version. but i'm sure you'd enjoy playing it with your friends a lot more.

You can't. Without a router it's either you use the computer or the PS3. Plug the ethernet cable from the modem to the back of the PS3 then you can play online.But without a router you can't use both at the same time.

you just plug from the modem but you'll need a router to use both a ps3 and computer - it supplies an ip address for your ps3 separate from the computer which is important to prevent an ip conflict which won't allow a connection

No, that's not a wireless controller. I'm not sure what a LINKSYS wireless internet thing is, but if it's a router than it's probably compatible but may need to be configured. As for the other two questions, I wouldn't know since I rock the 360.
1. If the LINKSYS Wiresless router can transmit WiFi and you have the 60Gig or newer version of the PS3, it should work. Otherwise you can always use a Cat5e cable to connect the two, that would work fine.

2. Controller is wireless but needs to be charged with the included USB cable to function. Plus in the controller's USB cable to controller and USB port of PS3, leave PS3 on while system charges, then disconnect in due time.

3. Updates Every Thursday. No guides so far, everything else, yes.

i don't think that product connects to the Internet. if you have a modem or router, you can connect the PS3 through those, using the Ethernet cable that you got with the PS3, or if you have a wireless router, you can connect with that without needing to plug anything into the PS3.

if you don't have either of them you will have to buy a router of some kind. i have a BT Voyager for my PS3 and it works very well. i think mine was around 拢50. it has an Ethernet connection so you can plug the PS3 straight in. once you have the PS3 connected, go to network setting on the XMB and enter whatever information it asks for, then you can go to apply for psn. this will allow you to play games over the Internet and access the PS store. its completely free to do this

Hello, i have some questions about the online community for the PS3. I went on the Playstation website under PS3 and looked at the Playstation 3 Network. I only saw a little bit of it, but to me it kind of looked something like Xbox LIVE. My friend just bought Xbox LIVE for his X360 and it looks pretty cool with the gaming community and the chatting and everything. My first question is- Is the Playstation 3 Network simular to XLIVE? Do you get to like add friends and chat with them and stuff while your ingame? And in the PSNETWORK is there like a lobby like xlive with chat rooms and the ppl online and a list of the games theyre playing? And finally, are there like Bluetooth headsets to use with ps3 like they have for x360 Live? If so how do they work?PS3 Online community?
It's kind of similar to Xbox Live..

You can add friends and ';Voice Chat'; or send messages to them, but not during a game.

And, Sony is working a avatar-chat for the PS3 called ';Home'; which will be released this spring, it's like a lobby you can move around and customize your own avatar and, chat with new people and stuff. It also has a Playstation Store, so you could download, demo's, game trailers, ps3 themes and more.. You can also buy some stuff from there too.

For the bluetooth headsets, well.. It doesn't come with the PS3, you need to buy it seperately, any bluetooth set will work. You just scan it on your ps3 and when it locates it, click ';Register';.PS3 Online community?

To be honest, the PlayStation Network (PSN) is not nearly as good as Xbox Live (XBL). There is no way of contacting your friends while you're playing a game. You can add friends, if you know their display name, which is the equivalent to a XBL Gamertag. As of today, there is no lobby where you can ';socialize'; with other people. Unles you're in a game like FIFA 08or something like that. Hpwever I recomend looking up ';Home'; or PS Home. It is scheduled to come out sometime this year and would be like a giant lobby... but look it up, it is really interensting.

If you ask me the online community is not one of the strong points of the PS, by far XBL is way, way better.
Well the PS3 Network is a work in progress, there is no lobby, you can add friends but you can only send mail to them. And you can only talk ingame via a headset. I use my bluetooth headset that i bought for my cell phone. Its a motorla h550. The PS3 network is going to being update to look kinda of the sims. You will get your own house that you can get furnitre for. You can go out and socialize with other people in different areas. I forget what its called. They running a closed beta in the us right now if im not mistaken. I think its supposed to come out this year. It was awhile ago when i read about it. So the xbox360 is currently better, but sonys looks freaking awesome i can't wait til it comes out.

PS3 Online Multiplayer?

I just got my ps3 and i have 2 controllers and my online setup and everything. I was wondering if it was possible to have friends over my house, we both each have a controller, and play an online multiplayer game together against other people online. Like for example: I have CoD 4 and my friend came over and we both get a controller each, is it possible for both of us to play online together at the same time? (im not just asking about CoD4 though im talking about online games in genral) If i can do this can you please list the games that have the capabilyity to do this. I know this is possible becuase one of my friends has a xbox 360 and i could play halo 3 online with him. Kind of like playing on like a sib account with him or somthing..idk how it works. PS3/Xbox 360 online gaming questions?

I've never really participated in online gaming except for when i first got my 360 and had the free trial, so i don't really know how it works. I think with the 360 you can buy one of those cards at Best Buy, or wherever, and activate an xbox 360 live account and play any game. Is that correct? I'm not certain with the PS3. I bought the system last week and tried to go online with MGS 4 tonight and ended up being asked by the publisher of the game, Konami, to pay them. Is that they way the Ps3 online gaming works? Do you pay for each game or publisher you want to play online? If so, that sucks as you will be nickeled and dimed to death. I had the same problem, I thought you had to pay to get on MGO, you don't, you have to pay for extra characters, but your first is free, and it is not a trial, it is free forever, you only have to buy another account if you, say, forget the password, and if your guy has a bad record you can delete him and get a new one and start out fresh, you can only have 1 free charcter at a time. No no other publisher does that so don't worry and yes you can buy a card from Best Buy for LIVE, but PS3 online is free, or if you wanted to you could buy LIVE from your 360, which is much easier. The PS3 blu-ray player is good as well, but it is the same as a DVD player, pop a disc in and enjoy.

Hmmm, sounds strange, maybe it was for something else. Anyway the PS3 has free online, all you do is create a free account and your good to go. Now the Xbox 360 you create, or already have an account and then you can either use a card you bought or pay through credit card.

Well i own a 360 and i think that xbox live is a great way to play your favorite games. It is also a great way to keep in touch with friends and meet new people. The new xbox live experience is also very entertaining. You get to make very own avatar and you can even stream netflix from your xbox. There are many more different types of feutures like buying games and movies online in the xbox live market place. The live cabibilties also give you the option of downloadable content such as extra maps or more sounds for Guitar hero.

Now for ps3...

i don't know much about it besides it is free and it sucks. Yes you can browse the web and yes they are releasing new features. BUT it is nothing like the xbox live experience. You don't have a friends list or dashboard or anything like that.

So i recommend to go to best buy and buy the membership card and join xbox live. You could also do ps3 network but i don't recommend it.

I have a 360 and love the online play with COD and other shooters, but I will be getting a PS3 in a week or so and wanted to know how PS3 online play is compared to 360. PS3 is fine and the online is just as stable as xbox live, a very good service, many features that are not on 360 and some features that 360 has exclusively. PS3 gets constant firmware updates so you are always with the latest software which improves the PS3 in general.

PSN has really come a long way over the last years, although they are still getting there, xbox live has a bigger community, a ';better'; interface, and overall a much richer online experience, xbox live IS better, anyone who says other wise has never played both, but this ';better'; is a big amount of small improvements over the interface, etc. the question is, is the 4 dollars a month worth it to you?
although the xbox u need to pay to go online, in my opinion i think its worth it. unlike ps3, u can have multiple people in an xbox live party and every will mostly will have mics. but in the ps3 not as much people will have mikes so i will be a bit more difficult to communicate wit your teammates and also in the ps3 a lot of people use hacks which ruins most of the joy of the games for ps3. but thats all i can think of right now

They're pretty much the same thing. I've played both, and there isnt any BIG difference in lag or anything. I dont remember seeing a ';party'; option for the PS3, which is something I do alot with my X-Live friends.

PS3 Online is called PSN (PlayStationNetwork), and its free.
the online for multi-platform games(games for both 360 and ps3) is the same. there should be no difference.

PS3 online is free and there is built in wifi. unlike the 360 were you have to buy a 100$ adapter.

If you have a wireless router you can do wireless, even if you aren't in the same room. Good Wireless routers are $100+. Ask the people at circuit city about it.

If you do wired you need an Ethernet cable(comes with 80GB v.) and connect it to your router. *Make sure you don't have the DSL cord plugged in at the same time or it won't work.*

That's all you have to do it's really simple. I don't know what you can do except find a really long Ethernet cable or move your PS3.

I got my PS3 two days ago and the I want to play GTA IV online, but I can't figure out how. I have an account and the internet works, but how do I actually play games with other people. Okay, I have a Linksys Wireless-G 2.4GHz 54bps Broadband router, 3 Ethernet cables, a cable modem, a TV, and of course, A PlayStation 3. I belive this is all of the supplies i need to go online with a PS3. So i need to know what to do now. How do i start all the way to how i finish and go online with my PS3. I also need a BlueTooth Headset for my PS3 but i dont know which one to get (My price limit is $50). So i would like an answer to my PS3 Online question as well as where to buy a BT Headset for my Ps3. Ill give best answer.Ps3 Online help?
I have mine set up wirelessy

1) turn on ps3 and wireless router

2) go to network settings in ps3 main menu screen

3) select internet connections and then wireless

4) select scan and your wireless router should come up

5) select the router and then put in your wep code. this code should be available with the router instructions and such. Some routers may use different security but usually it's wep

5) Select easy and automatic for ip adress and configuration (i think that's what the steps say)

6) the next couple things you can select no for i think.

7) save settings and test connection

8) set up an account in the network section of the ps3 main screen (should be near where the intenet browser is.)

For the headset i would suggest buying the warhawk game that comes with a headset. It's usually 60 bucks but i've seen it for 50 recently at target. If not that then any should be fine. Maybe one that a bluetooth enabled phone uses. shound't be more than 50 bucksPs3 Online help?
It's not that difficult to set-up online play. Just go to ';Network Settings'; just select auto config. The onscreen options after that will guide you thru the rest.

There are a lot of choice you can use for your head set, you should have no problems finding one in your price range. I got a Motorola because I can also use it with my cellphone and I have not had any problems using it with the ps3 also.
