How do i conect to ps3 online using a ethernet cable?

i conected the ps3 with the ethernet cable to my modem, thats conected to my laptop, but when i try to get on, it tells me to check the settings. i do, but i cant find anything wrong, could it be the modem? or what?How do i conect to ps3 online using a ethernet cable?
I had some issues on direct connection, so I bought myself a wired router (with VPN support). No problems.How do i conect to ps3 online using a ethernet cable?
Goto settings





Goto network settings





Goto network connection, select enable





Goto Internet connection settings just below internet connection-





Push yes when it says you may be disconnected





Select wired or wireless





For wireless use scan or enter manually





Follow on screen instructions.





Then run network setup on the laptop to allow the ps3 to use the internet through the laptop connection.

You're going to have to connect the cable directly to your DSL/CABLE modem, or through a router.
