I managed to get it connected last week, using Internet Connection Sharing, but now whenever I do that it looses the connection to the LAN I have joinin the PC to the network.
Alternatively I have a router to work with, but because the student network requires you to sign in before the net connects, the PS3 won't respond to it.

Signing Up For PS3 Online Sucks!
So I spent several hours last night trying to sign up for PS3 Online. I'd get through the first half, sometime two-thirds, and once to the end, before the system would just time-out on me on the PS3 and kick me back to start all over again.
Ask sony why!
I believe it needs your CREDIT CARD NUMBER for billing issues..
